To Cleanse Us

Today’s Encouragement is 1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

To Cleanse Us –

Is God disappointed in us when we sin?  In many of our prayers, even in some worship songs, we may say something like ‘I’m sorry I let you down’. (Now, it’s good to be sorry for our sin, but God is not ‘let down’!) Or we may think, “I don’t want to disappoint you.”  As if God had the aspirations for us of an earthly father whom we disappointed because we failed a class, dropped the pass, or told a lie!

If God was disappointed every time a person, even a believer, sinned… He would be perpetually, eternally disappointed!

Never once in the New Testament did God or Jesus say, “I’m so disappointed in you!” Or “You let me down” or “It really hurt me when you…”.   Friends these are frail human emotions, not of God!

God is bigger than this!  He is not surprised or disappointed when we sin; remember, He knows that we are sinners! He knows what we are going to do before we do it; what we will think before it even enters our minds!

Now listen carefully please…All the disappointment God has ever had or would have ever had, in all of time, in you and I… has been already washed away by the blood of Christ – which has cleansed – and still cleanses us – of all unrighteousness… including the unrighteousness of ‘letting God down’ in any fashion!

Thank You Father for cleansing us.  We recognize and confess our sin and accept Your undeserved forgiveness and cleansing. Help us now to live as Your Loved and Forgiven people.

Clean
