Today’s Encouragement is Romans 15:4 NLT Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Such Things Were Written –
Long ago the scriptures were written – to teach us – not to condemn us! They teach us – right vs. wrong, wisdom vs. foolishness, godliness vs. worldliness! And they give us hope and encouragement as we wait on God!
All this because God Loves us and wants us to know the Truth! And the Truth will set us free! (John 8:32)
When we do harmful (to ourselves and to others) things, (the Bible calls this sin…) we will have really bad outcomes! But this is not because God is “playing the cop” and punishing us, but because it is inherently wrong…
A simple example. Don’t steal. It’s wrong to steal. Why? Because if it’s okay for you to steal, then others will steal from you. Things that are stolen don’t satisfy. You can’t rely on having what you need when others are free to steal whatever they want from you just as freely as you steal from them. Same with murder, adultery, and all other commandments.
These scriptures are written to teach us, and to give us hope and encouragement. Not to limit us, or take away our freedom, but to give us far greater blessings!
We see, we find, exactly what we are looking for… “seek and you will find…”
So, my friend, seek God’s wisdom and truth, His hope and encouragement. The Bible is filled with it!
Father God, we thank You for teaching us, for giving us hope and encouragement. We need all of this!
