Today’s Encouragement is 1 Corinthians 1:2 NLT I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.
Called By God –
This passage introduces Paul’s letter to the believers, the church in Corinth. He reminds them that they are called by God (His choice) to be His own holy (separated, set apart) people.
It’s not something we think about very often… but we need to recognize it is true.
God called you and me to be His!
But that’s not the whole truth… read the rest. (It’s always a good idea to read the rest!) “who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
So, there’s a sort of process… as in any relationship, both parties have a role, both exchange vows.
God calls us. He has prepared the Way, He has chosen whom He will invite, and He then extends the invitation, “He calls”. He is unlimited in the ways (as He is in every way) that He calls us. He has unlimited creativity! But this is the first step.
The second step is our acceptance. We hear God’s call, or sense it in some way (He is unlimited!) and then we respond. We then accept His call; then we call out ourselves, on the Name of Jesus Christ, (see the verse) and the relationship is established, the ‘transaction’ is complete. We are His.
Father God, thank You for calling us. Thank You for the assurance we now have as Your “own holy people.”
