I’ve Promised

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 119:106 NLT I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.

I’ve promised –

Maybe it’s just me… but my first response to this is…

“Wait… what…? Doesn’t he realize he can’t keep that promise to God? And… Isn’t it better not to promise at all than to make a promise that you can’t keep… especially to God!? Isn’t it wiser not to promise, but to say, ‘I’ll do my best.’?  Isn’t it?”

Well, upon reflection… No!

Remember our wedding vows? They are promises to your spouse… Will you keep them perfectly? Probably not… we don’t do anything perfectly, do we? But do you INTEND to keep those vows, promises… of course!  By making the promises we are saying, “This is what I want… who I desire to be… how I long to live!”

But we know we are fallible, faltering, even faithless… and yet… we keep trying! We fail, we get back up again, we continue to press on toward the INTENT of our promises!

As I said, maybe it’s just me… but my wrong thinking has kept me from making any vows, any promises to God. (As if He doesn’t already know what I’m just now realizing…)

I will vow, I will promise Lord, to obey You, Your laws are right and good.  I will trust and obey You. And I know that Your Grace is sufficient when I fail, and I will begin again when that happens.  I choose to trust You, and I promise to honor You and Obey You. Help me to do so Lord.

Trust and Obey
