Today’s Encouragement is Romans 8:5 ESV For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Things of the Spirit –
Notice the decisive action in the phrase… “set their minds”. This is a choice, a firm decision! Each of us decides what we set our minds on. What we will focus on… how we will view the world, what we will believe, and who we will be.
Notice there are only two options. We can decide which is our own choice. We either set our minds on the Spirit of God, His Word, His Truth, His Love… or we set our minds on the flesh, this world, the tangible, physical, and temporary things of this world.
No other options.
And we decide what – we will Set Our Minds upon –
This concept of choice is repeated throughout the Bible. Joshua said, “Choose this day, whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15). And Jesus also presented this choice to many… and most declined to follow him! Except for a dozen or so…
Father, we will choose to set our minds, to fix our eyes, to dedicate our lives to You alone. Help us to renew this decision daily, and we thank You for Your undeserved grace when we wander.
