Citizens of Heaven

Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 3:20 NLT But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

Citizens of Heaven –

Paul contrasts us as believers with the world, who “think only about this life here on earth” (v 19) and says, But!  – not us!

We Are – (now and already!)                      Citizens of Heaven!

We sometimes take ‘citizenship’ for granted.  Most of us who’ve been raised in the US have never known anything else. Yet, those who do not have the rights, blessings, and privileges of citizenship have a more acute understanding of what an honor it is to be a citizen.

And we are not only citizens of a great earthly nation (flawed though it may be) but for us, as believers… we have Heaven’s Citizenship!

As Citizens of Heaven, we can “fix our minds on things above” (Colossians 3:2), recognize that we “are not of this world” (John 15:19), and remember that Jesus has already gone “to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).

Our place, our home, our citizenship… is Heaven… all of Eternity in peace with God!

One way to imagine this (although our imaginations are woefully inadequate for this) is to remember Eden, when God walked with Adam and Eve in peaceful companionship, talking together, enjoying the beauty of the garden and the cool of the evening… And yet… Heaven is infinitely more!

Father, we are so grateful for all Your blessings… and that You have chosen us to be Yours, to be Citizens of Heaven – Your Eternal Kingdom.  We cannot express our gratitude!

This Is Just What Heaven Means to Me
