Using My Name

Today’s Encouragement is John 15:16 NLT You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.

Using My Name –

Jesus continues speaking about the fruit that His followers will produce… lasting fruit.   This fruit is the inevitable result of our lives following Him.  And notice it isn’t our doing, efforts, plans, or work… we didn’t choose Him… He chose us!  And He appointed us to go and bear this fruit!

Does He ever fail? Does He make mistakes?

And in this context, the context of bearing fruit, which is His Love for people which we demonstrate by helping others, sharing His love and hope, and His message of salvation, this is where He says to us these amazing words… “The Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”

Many great minds have tried to evaluate or to explain these words.  But what Jesus says is clear, and in the context, He is promising us, stating with absolute clarity, that He will give us lasting fruit when we ask in His Name.

This is why we end our prayer with these words, “We ask in Jesus’ Name”.

Some don’t speak the name of Jesus very readily, as if it is offensive – and it is to many, or because it might isolate some people, it does!

Father God, we admit we don’t understand why we don’t always get what we ask for in Jesus’ Name.  Yet we choose to continue to trust You and to trust everything You have told us in Your Word.  Help us to continue to ask, and trust, in Jesus’ Name.

In Jesus Name
