Today’s Encouragement is John 15:14 NLT You are my friends if you do what I command.
You are my friends –
Notice that friendship with Christ is not automatic for those who believe. It’d be easier if it was… If we could just believe in Christ and become His friend… But Jesus added this IF!
The inconvenient “If”! That tiny word pops up in the most uncomfortable places!
We certainly all want up be friends with Jesus! We want His help, His strength, His blessings for our lives! And we can be His friends… IF!
IF!… We do as He commands. And what is it that He commands? Look back a few verses to John 15:12 “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”
So, my friend – if we aren’t loving each other in the same way that He loves us… we aren’t His friends. And when we do love each other.. as He has loved us… we are His friends!
Love each other like Jesus loves us! This is His command to us, and as we do this… we affirm that we are His! We’re His friends!
Father thank You for clear commands that help us become closer to You.
