Today’s Encouragement is John 7:38 NLT [Jesus said] “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'”
Anyone who believes –
That’s you and me! We are anyone… and we believe In Jesus! We ‘just’ believe. We aren’t perfect, we aren’t better, smarter, stronger, or wiser than others… we are ‘just’ people who believe in Him.
Others hear or read about Jesus and dismiss Him, consider Him a fable, a myth. They may present profound arguments or challenges to disprove the biblical record. Yet, we believe!
And because we believe, we may come to Him and drink. This is spiritual truth, and we drink of Him symbolically when we eat the Lord’s Supper/Communion… and we drink of Him when we read the Word, again symbolically eating, and drinking His truth, and Himself, for He is the very Word of God. (John 1:14)
And then, because we believe, and we then come to Him and drink, we then have rivers of living waters flowing from our hearts!
This living water is God’s Love. We become vessels, containers, like a pitcher of His Love, pouring His Love into those around us, while being constantly refilled by His never-ending Love. 1 John 4:19 “We love each other because He first loved us.”
This is you and me- we believe, and we come to Jesus, and we drink from Him, and then – from us – flows rivers of His Living Water.
Father God, only Jesus, Your unlimited Love, could do this. Help us recognize our need to come to Him and drink, so that Your Love may fill us, and overflow to the world around us.
