The Lamb of God

Today’s Encouragement is John 1:29 ESV The next day he [John] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

The Lamb of God –

Jesus is described in various ways, here and in Revelation as “The Lamb.”

And He is so much more!  But, why a Lamb?

When God delivered His people from slavery in Egypt, He instructed them to carefully sacrifice a flawless male lamb… and to put some of this sacrificial lamb’s blood on the outside top and sides of the doorposts of the house (Exodus 12:22).  This blood on the doorway, protected those inside from the angel of death, who passed by (passed over) these people.

From this event, the Passover became a commemoration of this grace, deliverance, and protection due to the Lamb and his blood.

The symbolism is clear. Jesus is our sacrificial Lamb, given once, finally, for all time, and for all people who believe in Him.  His blood and sacrificial death cleanse us from all sin and purchase us for God’s kingdom… He is the Lamb of God.

My friend, God has protected us from death, and given us eternal life, by the perfect blood of The Lamb, Jesus. We are eternal, spiritual not physical, beings because of The Lamb.

Thank You Father, for Jesus, the Lamb who takes away our sin and grants us eternal life with You!
