A Lamp

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 119:105 ESV Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

A lamp –

A lamp in ancient times provided only a dim light that carried just a few feet in any direction.  It was not a high-beam flashlight. So, the light from a lamp allowed you to take a few steps on your path, and then the light spread to illuminate the next few steps… so you could slowly and deliberately walk in the light.

Friend, we don’t see miles ahead of us, only the next step or two. Jesus told us to pray for our daily bread (Luke 11:3), not for a week or a year.  Bread for one day; light for one step. Because – He wants us to trust Him for our tomorrow and our next steps, to live by Faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Jesus said, I am the Light! (John 8:12) and Jesus lights our way, just as God’s written word lights our way.

We can store up His word in our hearts by learning His truth, and the words of Jesus are powerful truth.  Here’s a great word of encouragement to memorize:

Philippians 4:6 NLT “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”

The word of God is full of such gems of wisdom, insights, and power.  His Word is our light showing us the path, one step at a time. We can store it up in our hearts. (Psalm 119:11)

Father God, help us to remember Your Truth, Your Word, to store it in our hearts, and to walk in Your Light.

Thy Word
