Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 119:11 ESV I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Stored up –
What have we stored up?
For some, prepping is a primary goal. They store up food, water, and large quantities of things they might someday need. Hoarding is another phenomenon of our day, storing up excessive amounts of everyday items.
I knew a man who was an expert on the civil war. He knew every minute detail and spent all his free time on this. Others pursue sports, movies, hunting, music, even family… we all store up something in our lives and our hearts!
The songwriter says, he has stored up God’s Word in his heart… so that… he might not sin against Him.
Of all that we could store up or accumulate, physically, emotionally, mentally… seems like God’s Word would be kinda like, the best plan! Ya Think?
Friend, Memorizing scripture is storing up His Word. His Word gives us strength, wisdom, and weapons for the inevitable spiritual battles between our sinful nature and our godly desires.
You already know John 3:16, maybe most of Psalm 23. Start with any personally meaningful verse, something that speaks to your heart. And then my friend, we have more strength and more weapons to resist sin.
Jesus responded to the temptations of Satan each time, with scripture… “It is written…”
And a final thought, Jesus Himself is the Word of God (John 1:14). We can “Store up” Jesus in our hearts!
Father God, help us to store up Jesus and Your Word, Your Truth in our hearts, so that we might not do anything against You.
