Continued In Prayer

Today’s Encouragement is Luke 6:12 ESV In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

He Continued In Prayer –

All night! No sleep! Alone! On a mountain! Jesus! Praying!

Now we know that Jesus is the Son of God, never sinned, always did God’s perfect will, always spoke what God told Him to speak, never acted or spoke anything that didn’t come from God… right? We know these things from the Bible Truth.  And yet, as He was preparing to choose the twelve apostles… he spent all night in prayer.

All night!  I can only pray for a few minutes before I wander off mentally or physically to “the many important things I need to do.”

We might think, “Yes, but He was Jesus, so He can pray all night because He was perfect.”  True.  But why? Why would the perfect Son of God need to pray all night? Couldn’t He just ask God which people He wanted to be His apostles and hear God’s answer immediately?  This wouldn’t take all night… surely Jesus heard God clearly, surely God responded to Jesus immediately… surely…

Yet the message of God’s Word is living and active (Heb. 4:12), so there are no idle words in the Bible.

We see that:

Jesus waited with God all night in prayer.

Jesus “invested” a night of prayer in selecting His apostles.

We can conclude that:

There is nothing more powerful, more important, more beneficial than prayer. Even for Jesus!

Father, we long to hear Your direction, to confidently make wise decisions, help us to “invest the time” in prayer, seeking Your wisdom for the decisions we face, and then to act, in faith, trusting fully in the guidance You provide us, through prayer.

On My Knees
