How Quickly They Forgot

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 106:13a NLT Yet how quickly they forgot what he had done!

How Quickly They Forgot –

It’s a consistently recurring pattern or cycle:

God calls – we respond;

He blesses – we grow comfortable, complacent, and self-confident.

We rebel – experience the pain of turning away from God;

We cry out – “God save us!” and He does!

And we soon “quickly forget” – again…

You may have recognized this, in your life or the lives of others who have experienced some type of trouble… they are desperate and turn to God for His help, praying, attending church, “cleaning up their lives,” and when some relief comes, by God’s grace… we all become complacent again in faith, no longer seeking Him, no longer giving thought to our ways… and we slide back into faithlessness.

This cycle repeats – in every person, even in nations, as the Bible describes clearly.

So, how is this encouraging?

But God!

Just as surely as this pattern repeats – God forgives, restores, renews, rebirths, and recreates His own! Always- He is ready to receive us!

The antidote my friend, to this spiritual rebellion cycle, which begins with “They forgot,” is: “Remember”

Psalm 77:11 “But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.” And Jesus told us clearly, exactly – how to remember… Luke 22:19b “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Father, please help us to remember all You have done, the grace and Love You have shown us, the immeasurable gift of Jesus, Your salvation, the wonderful deeds of long ago, and what You have already done for each of us!
