Giving Thanks

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 50:23a NLT “But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.

Giving Thanks –

God speaks in this Psalm about sacrifice, not of animals, money, our time, or whatever else we might ordinarily consider to be a sacrifice. Instead, tells us that giving thanks to Him is a sacrifice that He respects…that honors Him appropriately.

How is this a sacrifice to us?

Is it possible that when we give thanks to Him, we are acknowledging that we recognize that He is the provider of all we have, all we need, all that exists… Is that possible?

Have nothing to be thankful for? Life stinks? Work is too hard? Don’t have any work? Friends and family are too demanding?  Don’t have any friends and family?

Yet – Are you breathing? We can thank Him for air, oxygen to breathe and keep us alive this moment.  Is your heart pumping? [If you’re reading this, you can go ahead and say “Yes” to all these rhetorical questions…] Do you have water to drink? Some food? A roof over your head? And much more than these… Do you have faith in Jesus as your Savior? Do you have Eternal Life?  Are all the amazing Promises He has given to us -yours?

Friend, we have so much to be thankful for.  Give Him Thanks.  He deserves it.  And we are blessed when we honor Him with a thankful heart.

Father, open our eyes to see how much we have, now, already, to be thankful for, and help us to honor You by expressing our thanks to You, always and often. You are so very good to us.
