Today’s Encouragement is Mark 4:40 NLT Then he [Jesus] asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Why are you afraid –
Jesus asked the disciples this question after He had told the raging storm “Silence, be still!” The disciples were amazed at His power! To merely speak and have nature obey, this is only one example of His power.
Then He asked… “Do you still have no faith?”
My friend, He was speaking to His closest followers, those most devoted to Him and chosen by Him!
He essentially asked them to evaluate their faith… as if He asked, “Don’t you guys have any faith in Me at all?”
Friend the encouraging thought is this – even His disciples struggled to have a consistent, strong faith in Him! And they were with Him day and night for years!
So do not condemn yourself for occasional questions or struggles with your faith… it is not perfection which He requires… but persistence. Mark 9:24b “I do believe but help me overcome my unbelief!” Notice also that the fear of His disciples showed their lack of faith.
Is it possible that – Fear means no Faith and Faith means no Fear. Put a little differently… When we are fearful, we are not exercising our faith in God, in His power, protection, and provision for us. And when we are living in faith, we have no need for any fear!
Father God, we believe! Strengthen our faith, help us to be persistent, always returning to a childlike faith in You, and Your power and Your Love for us. Help us turn away from fear to Faith.
