To Fear Him

Today’s Encouragement is Deuteronomy 6:24 NLT And the LORD our God commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear him so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives, as he has done to this day.

To Fear Him –

Most fear is destructive.  But there is also a “healthy fear.”  It’s a good idea to fear a lion, a poisonous snake, an erratic driver in the car beside you, a hurricane… we fear these because of the power they hold and for the harm they might do. This fear is wise.

The words awe, respect, honor all are appropriate descriptions for the fear of God. And all this is right and wise.

And this is “healthy fear,” God is the only one we need to fear.  Because He alone is our Judge, evaluating and measuring us against right and wrong, life and death.  And He alone knows the complete truth about us, everything we have done and will do, and what our thoughts have been and will be!

But, my friend, we have an advocate, a ‘defense attorney’ in Jesus!  And, even more than advocating for and defending us, Jesus, Himself took our place and He has already suffered all the punishment, including death, which you and I fully deserve!

So, as believers in Jesus, we now – do not need to fear the judgement of God, because of what Christ has already done for us.  Since Jesus has paid the price for our complete freedom… we truly now have nothing to fear from God!  And, since we do not need to fear God (because we are His dearly loved and chosen children) then we need have – No Fear – of anyone or anything!

No Fear
