Take Refuge

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 57:1 ESV Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.

Take refuge –

This song was written by David before he became King. He was an incredibly powerful warrior and had killed Goliath the giant. Of him they sang, David has killed tens of thousands!  This man, a powerful warrior, asks God for refuge, protection, and shelter?

At times my friend, no matter how great our strength, physical and/or spiritual… we need to rest, to hide, to get away… and just be safe.

God Himself is our refuge, shelter, and hiding place.  Obviously, this is a spiritual ‘place’, but as we know from the Bible, the spiritual world is just as ‘real’ as this physical world, and it is eternal!

We can hide in God’s shelter, in the shadow of His wings, at any time.  We just need to ask, to quiet our soul, and take our thoughts captive to His loving, protecting, all-powerful shelter, refuge, and safety.

Father God, help us to recognize that You offer us perfect refuge and shelter at any time.  Help us turn to You alone for refuge.
