Today’s Encouragement is 1 Kings 19:12b NLT And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.
A Gentle Whisper –
Not the mighty windstorm, (v11) tearing loose the rocks from the mountain, not the earthquake, nor the fire… but a gentle whisper.
God chooses, well – everything! He chooses how He speaks to His people. In Eden, He spoke with Adam and Eve face to face, in ancient times through his prophets, through miracles, through a donkey, through His written scriptures, through the songs of David. As Jesus walked on this earth, God spoke to us through every word Jesus said. He is unlimited, and we are wise to not presume to apply any limitation upon Him!
In today’s passage, God wanted Elijah to hear Him clearly, so He preceded His gentle voice, a whisper, with a demonstration of incredible power! As if to say, ‘Do I have your attention, Elijah?’
Although Elijah was steeped in depression and self-pity, even doubting God’s plan and purpose… God dramatically comes to visit him, to speak, in a whisper, just to reassure His servant, Elijah. In essence God told him, (v15-18) “I will still use you, to anoint a King, to appoint your successor, and I have already set aside for myself 7000 additional believers. You are not alone!”
Father God, we are grateful that You are unlimited, that You can and do speak to us in various, unlimited ways, as You choose. We admit that we do get discouraged at times and we need Your reassurance, encouragement, and Your Gentle Whisper, to strengthen us. Please whisper to each of us today, Lord. You know exactly what we each need to hear.
In the Whisper
