Today’s Encouragement is 2 Peter 1:8 NLT The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Grow Like This –
Our Faith is the essential element of salvation. Ephesians 2:8a “For by grace you have been saved through faith.”
Yet, our new lives merely begin with faith, as today’s passage discloses… and we are now advised to grow in these ways and build upon that foundation of faith with these virtues. And this is how we become productive and useful in Christ!
The growth process is outlined in the preceding verses, 2 Peter 1:5-7 “In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.”
“Wait just a minute! That’s a long list. How am I supposed to go about doing all these good things!”
Yes, it is a long list, and yes, it is a great challenge and yes, it will probably take a very long time… like… a lifetime! And remember Philippians 4:13 “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
And my friends, what else would we do with the life we’ve been given?
And do you notice where this growing faith leads? It leads to Love for everyone. Just as Jesus taught us. It all begins and is built upon… Faith.
