Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 22:37-38 NLT Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
First and Greatest –
We all like to be First, don’t we? First in line, First Place, First to accomplish, First to discover… you name it and we wanna be First!
But God!
God Alone deserves to be First in everything. First – in our hearts and lives especially, as well as in Love, loyalty, honor worship, and praise. He is leader, shepherd, guide, comforter, and source of all good things.
When we choose to place someone or something other than God First, in any context, then we are deciding to assign God a lower priority. Not a Good plan, my friends!
There has been a lot of talk in recent years about “balance”. Maintaining a good balance in your life between work and family, healthy diet, exercise, etc. While these are generally good ideas, my friends, in our Faith, no ‘balance’, no artificial, logical, norms are appropriate.
Faith in God is not a box to be checked, like doing our regular exercise, so we can move on to more interesting aspects of our lives. Rather, when we give Him the proper First place in everything, First in Honor in our lives, our hearts, minds, and souls… then He arranges everything else in proper perspective!
Because we have chosen to honor Him First… everything else falls into its proper place, beneath Him.
Father, Help us to choose wisely, daily, to place You First in our lives, and then trust You to guide us through the journey.
