Today’s Encouragement is 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
All Scripture –
Paul teaches Timothy, and now us, millennia later, that All Scripture is 1) inspired by God, 2) teaches us the Truth, 3) exposes what is wrong, 4) corrects, teaches, prepares, and equips us 5) and is used by God to help us … to do every good work!
Pretty powerful stuff! And note the word – All. This was written at a time when only the Old Testament books were Scripture. He clearly was referring to the books that we now call the Old Testament!
My friends, All Scripture means all of it! Please don’t neglect the Old Testament. But be sure to read it – in the Light of the New. The Old is full of God’s commands, called the Law, which Jesus has already fulfilled (Matt. 5:17) for us! But also His Wisdom, His Promises, and His relationship with His people. The New tells us we are saved through Faith in Jesus, and that He has done everything for us! He said, “It is Finished!” (John 19:30)
If we didn’t know what God had commanded, we wouldn’t recognize all that Christ has (already) done for us.
Father God, we thank You for the wonderful gift You gave us in Your Word. Help us to read it, reread it, and to learn what You have inspired to be written to us. Help us to feed ourselves on Your Word. So that we are equipped to do every good work.
