Can My Dust Praise You?

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 30:8-9 NLT I cried out to you, O LORD. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying, “What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness?”

Can my dust praise You? –

This seems an odd idea, as if he is trying to reason with God … (positing that it is somehow ‘better for God’ that he is alive rather than dead (dust)!

But Scripture is alive! (Heb. 4:12) And it always has purpose and meaning even though we may not be able to immediately grasp it!

So, a possible interpretation could be…

-If I am dead, I cannot praise You by choice-

As humans on this earth, we can choose to honor God with our praises, yes, with singing to Him and about Him; but also, in our hearts and words, thinking, and speaking to others of His Goodness, Love, Grace, Power, and Forgiveness!  This is Praise!  And it comes from us as human vessels, frail, faulty, and fallible!  And by our choice!

Then, when in time, we all become dust on this earth, we become alive in His Presence eternally…, and then my friends, our praise is perfect and unceasing – all day long, all of heaven sings, shouts, and proclaims- Holy, Holy, Holy!

Yet today, as humans, before we return to dust… we can choose to praise Him – Now – in our hearts, words, and songs!  And my friend, that choice – to praise Him… is His favorite song of all!

Father God, may our choice to praise You, regardless of our circumstances – bring You, Joy.
