Why Should I Be Afraid

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 27:1 NLT The LORD is my light and my salvation- so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?

Why should I be afraid –

Fear is the greatest enemy that we face.  It is the greatest threat to our peace, health, sanity, joy, and even life itself. It can completely cripple us, or it can merely trip us up repeatedly.  It is a tool used by our enemy, the evil one as described in our Bible, to torment humans without mercy.

But God!

Our God knows us, He knows our propensity to irrational and obsessive fear.  So, He consistently addresses our fears, both now and throughout biblical history.

“Do not fear” is His frequently repeated command, His comfort, and His continuous cry to us; because He knows we are fearful, frail, and fumbling people.

Yet, as His chosen, adopted, cleansed, and deeply loved people … we have nothing to fear!  We may choose to fear and we have unlimited opportunities to do so! It knocks on our door, creeps in through the window, and blows in like a tornado at times… and yet… Our response to the many opportunities, temptations, and assaults of fear, this primary tool of the evil one… can be, must be – Faith.

Faith in God, His mercy, protection, power, and immeasurable Love… is the antidote to all fear.

He is our Light and Salvation, our Fortress… why would we choose to fear?

We are people of Faith – not of fear.  So, every time we realize we are dealing with fear… we can choose to refuse it, and instead, proclaim the Truth – in Faith. And fear is defeated. Always. By our Faith in Jesus.
