Today’s Encouragement is 2 Peter 1:5a (NLT) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.
Make Every Effort –
We are to make every effort to: work diligently, strive for, focus on, and respond to God’s Promises! Our relationship with God is bi-directional… We cannot and do not ever earn salvation, but it is a free gift (Rom. 6:23) offered to us… and we then accept that perfect, immeasurable Gift of Eternal life from our Loving Father. Then, in relationship with Him, from ‘within His Love’, we then ‘make every effort’.
Just as in human relationships, we want to bring happiness, peace, and even joy to our spouses, we want to please them. When we are focused on pleasing only ourselves, no one wants to be around us! But caring for others, and helping them, are traits we respect in others and in ourselves.
Our response to God’s promises (see today’s verse) – is in direct proportion to our acceptance of those promises. That is, when we believe His promises, we are able to act in accordance with that faith. Like stepping on the ice in a frozen lake… we exercise faith by responding to God’s Promises. And this is an Effort, and intentional mindset of the believer, as described above.
Father God, help us to understand how we are to respond to You, to Your Gifts and Your Promises; to make every effort… so that we can grow in our relationship with You. We know our actions cannot earn Your free gift of Salvation, but we want to respond well to Your Immeasurable Gift. We pray in Jesus’ Name.
