Today’s Encouragement is Hebrews 8:13 ESV In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
A New Covenant –
The Old Covenant (the first) was the agreement or contract which God put in place to guide His people. The ten commandments (the summary of the Law) were included, the priesthood, and the animal sacrifice for periodic and temporary forgiveness for breaking the law. The book of Hebrews explores deeply the differences between the old and new covenants. In a word, The Old said, “Obey God and He will bless you; disobey and you will suffer.” under this Old way, God’s blessing and His Love and Salvation were solely contingent on our behavior… ‘If we were good… Then He would bless us.’
Jesus introduced the New Covenant, which today’s verse explains, has made the Old obsolete.
In this New agreement, contract, covenant… Jesus has fulfilled the Law for us (we never have been able to do this ourselves!), He alone is our High Priest, Savior, and the Mediator between us and God, and He was and is the Ultimate and Final sacrifice which bought our eternal forgiveness.
And under this New Covenant my friends, our salvation does not depend on us being ‘good enough’! Jesus already has taken care of that!
Now we still strive to live according to God’s ways, in order to please Him, honor Him, and live within the Grace and Mercy of Jesus, but our Righteousness and Salvation are secured by Jesus alone, not by our efforts!
Thank You, Jesus! For all you have done for us, and for what you will do!
Thank You Jesus for the Cross
