Listening

Today’s Encouragement is 1 Samuel 3:10 NLT And the LORD came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

Listening –

Chapter 3 tells of God speaking to a young boy, Samuel, for the first time.  Samuel heard someone call him and went to Eli, the priest, his master. This happened 3 times before Eli realized the Lord was calling the boy.  Then, the fourth time God spoke his name, Samuel replied to the Lord “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

God continues to call us – He is not impatient with us. He called Samuel 4 times before Samuel responded to His call.

Samuel said, I am Listening – our response to God’s call is – Listen!

My friends when God speaks to us, and He does, our response is to Listen.  God is Sovereign, He does what He chooses, in His way, for His reasons.

Here’s a suggestion, each time you read God’s Word, ask Him to speak to you. And then – listen to Him. It may take time, patience on our part, He decides how and when.  But be assured, because loves you, He wants to speak to you.

God longs to speak to us, His dearly loved people.  And everything He says is consistent with His Word which He has provided us in the Bible.  He will never contradict Himself.

Father God, we are listening.  Speak to us, in whatever manner You choose, directly like Samuel, or through Your Word, or to our spirits through Your still small voice (1 Kings 19:12).  Help us to listen and obey.

Speak, O Lord
