Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 37:4 NLT “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”
He will give you –
This seems too good to be true, there must be a catch…. We are too often skeptical of God’s promises, like this one.
When we, His deeply loved people, are delighting ourselves in Him… then He begins planting within us, His desires for us, (because we are seeking Him), and then He will give you those ‘heart’s desires’ (that are from Him). That is, He puts new, godly desires in our hearts… then He fulfills them.
How do we get there? We certainly want our heart’s desires to be fulfilled! Have you ever seen a spoiled child… one who gets everything he wants? Not a pretty sight! But my friend God is not speaking here about ‘giving you everything that you want…’
As we seek Him, growing in relationship with Him, and learning to ‘delight ourselves in the Lord’, becoming more of the person He designed us to be… THEN the desires of our heart are transformed by His grace… into desires that are aligned with God’s Heart.
This is God’s Transformative work within us, His people. It’s a process, it takes time, it takes our willingness to Wait on Him, and our willingness to return to Him time and again when we wander away. But this is a relationship, it’s growing and changing and deepening. And He is in control of this process, as we surrender to Him.
Father God, draw us to You, help us recognize that You alone are The Source of Delight for our hearts… transform our selfish hearts into hearts of Love, like Your Heart. We long to be aligned with Your Heart.
