A Pure Bride

Today’s Encouragement is 2 Corinthians 11:2 NLT “For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband-Christ.”

As a pure Bride-

Of course, we first become saved by accepting Jesus as our Savior. God arranged, and invited us, and our part is merely acceptance.  At that moment, and for all time, we are saved eternally. We are at peace with God and He is at peace with us.  We can rest in His love and blessings. We can be content.

However, salvation is the entry point to our New Life, we are a New Creation (2 Cor. 5:17), and we then begin to grow as that new creation in our relationship with Him.  This ‘spiritual growth’ brings us to an ever-growing, developing maturity in our relationship with Him.   And this relationship is – just exactly like marriage!

That’s when the new relationship begins and the two become one.  So it is with salvation (the wedding) we become one with Him.  Then we begin the growth of that new relationship… the marriage.

He leads us in this growing relationship. As He knows is best.  This is when we become more loving, less spiteful; more gentle, less obnoxious; more generous, less selfish; more Christ-like, less of me.

God designed marriage. It was His idea.  And why?  Because we need others, alone we are incomplete.  But, most importantly because it is His plan that we each become one with Jesus, that we become the bride of Christ!  As a man, I confess this is hard to accept, but it’s an inescapable truth in His Word.

Father God, we need Your Spirit to guide us into all Your Truth.  We long to be One with You Lord.  Help us to release the concerns of our flesh to accept the truth of Your Spirit.
