Today’s encouragement is Judges 6:36 ESV “Then Gideon said to God, ‘If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said…’”
If You Will –
The angel of the Lord had appeared to Gideon, (v12) and told him to lead Israel in rebellion against the Midianites who were oppressing them. Later that day, the Lord spoke to Gideon (v25) and further instructed him to tear down the town’s Baal altar, and make an offering to the Lord, when he did so, the people wanted to kill him, but his father intervened. A short time later, (v34) ‘the Spirit of the LORD clothed Gideon’ and he called together the men of Israel to go to war against Midian, and they all came.
Then, after these three amazing interactions with God, Gideon still has the nerve to ask God for a physical sign to confirm for Gideon that this was God’s direction! (v36-40) As if one personal appearance (v12) wasn’t enough! Gideon finally accepted God’s message and obeyed, and God brought about an amazing victory for His people.
The encouragement is that God is not bothered by our weak faith or our questions! He is patient with us (2 Peter 3:9)!
Remember Jonah even ran away from God! Yet God wouldn’t let him die, not continue to run. God the Father brought Jonah back to Himself. Even Moses tried to make excuses for not obeying God’s instruction about going to Egypt! And Gideon needed convincing too…
God is patient with us my friends, an all-loving and all-wise Father who gently and patiently deals with his wandering, hiding, and questioning people.
Thank You Father that nothing shall separate us from Your Love, even our own doubts, fears, and questions!
