Used to Live

Today’s Encouragement is Ephesians 2:2 NLT You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil-the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

Used to live –

We ‘used to live’ as slaves… to the devil.  We obeyed him, lived his way, and did the things he commanded.

This is not a metaphor, not a fable, or even a parable.  It is Truth.   We were not (are not) free in our sin; instead, sin is slavery to the evil one, doing whatever feels good, whatever feels right at the moment, allowing our feelings and emotions to rule over us, enslaving us to the devil. This is a refusal to obey God, to love Him, and to love others as ourselves. Controlled by feelings and emotions, we are, as we were, unknowingly under the control of the devil.

BUT!  Verse 4 begins, “But God…” He has saved us from this life of slavery and death, to become His very own people! (V5) ‘even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)’

But God gave us Life!

Father, we thank You for Your Love and Mercy in which You saved us from slavery to the evil one! Help us to remain free in Christ!
