Today’s Encouragement is Galatians 3:3 NLT How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
New lives in the Spirit –
We, like Jesus, as His followers and His brothers and sister, even as His friends… are both Spirit and Flesh. We became spiritual beings at our new rebirth.
The spiritual nature within us honors God and desires to serve Him, love Him, and love others. The flesh within us wants everything for itself, we’re all too familiar with the desires of the flesh!
Now we cannot pretend or fake our spiritual nature, not for long. God isn’t fooled and over time no person will be fooled either. We can only be genuine spiritually as we surrender to God’s way.
We cannot achieve any spiritual growth by operating in the flesh, by doing good things, or by avoiding bad things. In truth, our flesh wars against the spirit, it lies to us saying, “Go ahead, it won’t hurt you, besides, you’re completely forgiven, aren’t you?”
How do we then live by the spirit? First, seek Him! Ask God to lead You by His Spirit (Matt 6:33) we are promised it will be given! Second, refuse the way of the flesh (Jas 4:7), trying to ‘be good’ and so earn your position as a believer. Third, remember we are saved by grace (Eph 2:8), and anything good that we do comes from His Spirit working within us, not from ourselves, not from the flesh. Fourth, remember that His mercy is new every morning (Lam 3:23). And we can never deserve His Grace.
Friends, when we strengthen our spiritual nature through prayer and praise, it becomes dominant and powerful. And conversely, as we strengthen our flesh, it soon takes over the leadership of our heart and mind.
Father God, we desire, the spiritual nature within us desires to be fully Yours. Help us this moment to choose to allow Your Spirit to direct our lives. We ask in Jesus’ Name.
Same God
