Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 27:50-51 You ESV “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. [51] And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.”
The curtain was torn –
When God established the first tabernacle, He carefully outlined to Moses that His Presence would dwell specifically, in the ‘Holy of Holies’, or the Most Holy Place, in the tabernacle of God, behind a beautifully woven thick veil (or curtain), which was specifically designed to separate this Most Holy Place from the rest of the temple (Ex 26:33).
And of all the astounding things which occurred when Jesus, the Son of God, died… including an earthquake, darkened skies, dead raised to life… this curtain was torn, completely, into two pieces, from top to bottom. As if by the very hand of God.
Now these details are not random, not just a few examples of the earth-shattering events at this – the most critical moment of all time… No, these things are written to teach us!
This temple curtain separated God from everything. Only the high priest could go past it, into the Most Holy Place where the Ark of the Covenant was kept… and that, only once a year, and with great preparation, and purification to ensure his worthiness.
But!!! At the moment Jesus died, this curtain, separating God and man, was completely torn apart… so that now, because of Jesus, there is nothing between us and God the Father!
Now, we can walk into God’s presence with confidence (Heb 10:19-20)
Now, nothing can separate us from His love (Rom 8:38-39)
Thank You God for this Perfect example of how You have remove any and all barriers between us and You.
