Today’s Encouragement is 1 Corinthians 2:5 NLT “I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.”
Not human wisdom –
Paul wrote to explain that when he came to bring them the message of the gospel of Jesus, he came with plain talk, not lofty messages, presenting the truth about Jesus, without great ‘human wisdom’. And he did so in order to draw attention to the power of God and not to the wisdom of man.
Many wise people present themselves to us as having answers, truths, or wisdom, and certainly there are those who do have some. And Paul certainly did have great wisdom! Yet, he preached to these people a simple but profound message. Jesus.
In v 2:2 He disclosed, “For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.”
My friends, man’s wisdom may seem attractive, seductive even. There are many religions formed by man, philosophies, beliefs, and theories. And many of these have an element of truth. But only that, only an element.
Human wisdom always comes to its limits, always reaches an impasse which it cannot exceed.
Only Jesus, crucified for our redemption, to set us free from sin and right with God… only this truth remains eternal. The truth of the One who stated, I am the Truth.
Lord of all, our Father, help us to hold fast to The Truth, only Jesus and Him crucified… and always measure the wisdom of man against The Truth, Jesus.
Only Jesus
