Today’s Encouragement is Romans 13:14 (NLT) “Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.”
Clothe yourself –
What are we putting on? What do we clothe ourselves with? When we go for a job interview, we wear the most appropriate clothing, for dinner with our spouse, or working in the yard… we dress for the occasion.
Spiritually we are invited to ‘put on’ Jesus Himself as our clothing, like a robe completely covering us – with Him. In Ephesians 6 we are told to ‘put on’ the armor of Christ. In Psalm 104 “The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment“. There’s something to this my friends … This is New Life! No longer I who live but Christ! (Gal 2:20).
Notice that both steps are up to us… to ‘Clothe yourself’ and ‘Don’t let yourself’…. Both are our responsibility. And as we daily clothe ourselves with Christ, He then provides the spiritual strength we need to not let ourselves “think about ways to indulge your evil desires.”
He is the source of 1) what we should do, 2) how we can do it, and 3) the spiritual strength to do so. We are called to do our part. Clothe ourselves and do not think about…
Lord, we ask that You wrap us, clothe us with Jesus today, that we can put on His armor, and be enfolded in His nature. So that we are covered with and by Him, His nature, His love, His mercy, and our minds are renewed with Your strength to resist temptation.
Clothed with Christ
