Today’s Encouragement is John 21:4-6 NLT At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. [5] He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. [6] Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So, they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.
So, they did –
Remember Jesus had just been crucified, buried, and resurrected. Although He had already appeared to them, He was no longer physically with them.
So, Peter and the guys went fishing! Is it possible they had given up on Him, returned to their old lives? And yet had caught nothing all night! Till Jesus came into the picture!
So, they did! They heard what He said, didn’t even realize it was Jesus, and so they did… and so – they caught a huge catch of 153 fish, that they couldn’t even pull the net into the boat! (there were 7 fishermen!).
This isn’t about fish, nor about the miracle especially… but obedience! They DID what Jesus said. They were tired, exhausted from fishing all night, they were sad because their friend and hero who had been killed (but then appeared to them behind locked doors) wasn’t around any longer. These guys were close to giving up all hope!
But – They DID! They obeyed Jesus, they listened to His advice, they followed His instruction. And the result, wasn’t only a miracle… they encountered Him! Even had breakfast with him!
Father God, please help us to hear Your voice, Your wisdom, Your instructions… and to simply obey! Your way is always best for us!
