Today’s Encouragement is John 6:48-50 ESV I am the bread of life. [49] Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. [50] This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
The bread of life –
Jesus taught us by using physical examples to reveal spiritual truths. For example, He said ‘You must be born again’ (John 3:4), ‘I will give you living water so you will never thirst again.’ (John 4:14). His challenging teaching was intended to separate those who believed in Him completely and whose who were merely curious about Him. In fact, in V 66 “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” The separation came about.
My friends, following Christ is not for the crowd, not for the thrill seeker, not for those who just want to get something… Following Christ means giving up everything we have and that we are… for Him! Because – He is the Bread of Life!
We take him into ourselves, symbolically, spiritually, by faith, and by taking communion, the Lord’s Supper…. We become part of Him in doing so. Many turned away before they could come to understand His truth.
Father God, help us to continue to learn from You, to remain open to what You have to teach us, for You are never finished teaching, guiding, feeding us in this life. Thank You Father for the Bread of Life, the Living Water, and all that Jesus is!
I am the Bread of Life
