Today’s Encouragement is Luke 4:1 NLT “Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness”
The wilderness –
Moses herded sheep for 40 years, (Acts 7:30)
Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness, (Acts 7:36)
Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness (Luke 4)
Paul stayed 3 years in the wilderness (Gal 1:17-18)
The time spent in the wilderness is symbolic of a spiritually dry, difficult, challenging, sometimes life threatening and for believers, life transforming experience. It may be days, months, or years. The length of time, the circumstances differ, the degree of isolation (human and/or spiritual), confusion, temptation, suffering and even more, will differ.
Is it possible that we all will spend some time there… in our own spiritual wilderness?
Time spent waiting on God to do His work within our hearts and minds. A time of waiting, learning to trust Him, learning to hear Him. Dealing with doubts, sin, fears, loneliness the list is unlimited. Even Jesus spent 40 days there…
Some of us have been through such ‘wilderness’ times, some may have more ahead of us, and some may be there now. Wherever we are in our spiritual journey, He is With you! He’s promised to be!
Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Help us Father, to trust You even when, (especially when) we are in a wilderness of sorrow, grief, confusion, isolation, questioning or pain. You have promised to never abandon us. Thank You!
In the Wilderness
