Today’s Encouragement is 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
The righteousness of God –
[Deep gratitude to my friend and brother, Pastor Rob, who helped me understand this astounding concept.]
In Him (Jesus)…
We might become…
The righteousness of God…???
This statement boggles the mind!
Certainly, we are nothing without Him, indistinguishable from the mass of humanity, going nowhere, accomplishing nothing of lasting value, and living a life of meaninglessness. But IN HIM… in Christ, my friends, Everything is different, everything is renewed, and granted significance! We become significant! And that – not slightly, but vastly beyond even our imagination!
This passage proclaims the unimaginable truth… in Him, we become…
The Righteousness of God!
How is this possible? Only by Jesus, the One who took our place… who became sin! He became our Sin! Took it on Himself…
And the exchange, my friends, the unimaginable exchange…?
When He took our sin, He stepped into our place… then – We stepped into… His Righteousness, into His place! …Into perfect righteousness (right standing with God!)
Because of Jesus becoming our sin, we are… now, already, the Righteousness of God. We represent Him to this world, as just described in v20, we are His ambassadors! His Righteousness!
Father God, honestly this is just too wonderful for us to comprehend… first, that Jesus would take upon Himself, All our sin, and second, in this unimaginable divine exchange, He would allow us to become Your Righteousness! Help us to accept this overwhelming, astounding Truth Lord!
