Today’s Encouragement is 2 Timothy 2:24-25 (NLT) A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25 Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.
A servant of the Lord-
Yesterday we considered our responsibility to gently instruct, today let’s think about how we are instructed by others.
Paul’s instructions can be used to teach us both perspectives… that of a teacher/instructor, and also that of a student/learner. The opportunity here is to recognize how a true servant of the Lord will teach us as students (we are all still learning!).
Friends, a genuine “servant of the Lord” will teach us God’s Truth with kindness, patience (for we are all difficult people at times), and with gentle instruction. This servant will recognize that it is God who leads us to the Truth, and not the teacher/preacher, nor their power, nor persuasive arguments.
Is it possible that – we can only become – those hearts whom God changes – when we have such true “servants of the Lord” – kindly, patiently, and gently instructing us in the Truth!
Father God, grant your people the wisdom and discernment, to recognize the gentle instruction of Your servants who teach us. Help us avoid those teachers who are not gentle, patient, kind, or who resort to quarrels and arguments. We need Your Spirit to change our hearts, not man’s arguments or persuasive teaching.
Speak O Lord
