Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 4:7 NLT Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
God’s peace –
Then you will experience God’s peace… when is that? After you choose not to worry but to pray (Verse 6 – see yesterday’s devotional).
My friends, when we choose to say Yes to God’s ways, His plans, His best… we must say No to our own ways, our will, our self-determination… this is Surrendering to Him. As Jesus did always, but most clearly, He prayed the night he was arrested… Luke 22:42 (NLT) “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Your Will be done, not mine! But don’t stop there my friends… read on! (v43) “Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.”
God’s perfect peace came to Jesus as He surrendered to God’s will, turning away from worry, fear, anxiety (and Jesus was very anxious at this time!) and by Praying, turning TO God, asking Him for help, and also – Trusting Him, His ways, His plans… then peace comes. And not ‘just any peace’, but God’s Peace.
“Then you WILL experience God’s Peace’…. This is Assurance. Not maybe, not occasionally…. YOU WILL! And God’s Peace exceeds anything we can understand. It guards our hearts and minds… when we choose to live in Jesus… surrendering to and trusting in God’s will and plan.
Help us Father, to turn from worry to prayer, to choose You over our own ways and thoughts, to Trust You. We long to experience Your Peace which exceeds anything we can understand!
