Today’s Encouragement is Mark 4:37-38 NLT But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. [38] Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
Jesus was sleeping-
As the storm blew in, and the waves tossed, water began to fill the boat, the men shouted at each other to bail water or tie down the cargo, and the wind blew fiercely and the noise level had to be deafening… yet Jesus was asleep.
Why didn’t He wake up earlier? Why didn’t He rebuke the storm before it even started? How could anyone sleep in such conditions?
Of course, Jesus knew beforehand the storm was coming, yet He didn’t prevent it, or even warn His disciples, he just went to sleep.
Is it possible my friends that Jesus was waiting for the right time to wake and calm the storm? His time, His conditions, His decision. We want to avoid the storm completely, clear skies and smooth sailing always… but God has other plans.
We are designed to Need Him! Not manipulated but all are created, as one philosopher said, “with a God-shaped hole that nothing else can fill”
My friends, we are often in the midst of the storm. Somewhere between the calm beginning and the miraculous restoration of peace. This is the place of Faith, a school where we learn to Trust Him, to pray for our needs and rely on Him to deliver us… in His Time, as when He woke up in midst of the storm and said, “Be Still!”
Father God, as we endure, by Faith, the storms of this life, the trials, and even the suffering, help us be confident that, You are with us, and that You will act when You know the time is right! Strengthen our Faith Father, we pray in Jesus’ Name.
Peace in the storm
