Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 127:1-2 NLT Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. [2] It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.
Unless the Lord –
Many a young person, full of strength, sets to work building a home for their family. They are diligent, dedicated and determined; working tirelessly to build a home, a business, wealth, reputation, and success. And ultimately, they may achieve all these goals.
Yet they also will achieve a few other things which they don’t anticipate. The ten- and twelve-hour workdays, seven days a week may well yield their desires, home built, business built, wealth built, reputation built. Yet the cost will be, a spouse who was second place to the work, and often a cold faith, something occasionally considered, when they could find the time. They may even claim to believe in God, to trust in Jesus, but other than a quick prayer before meals, there is no evidence of a real relationship with Him.
They have built their home, a ‘house on sand’. When troubles come, just as tough times come to us all, this world will begin to crumble, and they may soon be in danger of losing this family – the very reason they had built the home, the business, and worked so diligently.
Friends, when we place God first, honoring Him above everything… our marriage, family, work, reputation, wealth, and health…. He guides, helps, strengthens, and friends… he even ‘gives rest to His loved ones.’
Father, we need Your help to focus first on You, we need Your strength to do what You lead us to do, and we also need Your rest. You truly are our Home, Father.
I will bring you home
