Today’s Encouragement is Colossians 3:2 (NLT) Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Things of heaven –
Perhaps you’ve known them, people who say things like, “He’s so heavenly minded that he’s no earthly good!” Seems a wise and logical saying… “How can we be thinking about Things of Heaven? We’ve never been there! Don’t know anyone who’s ever been there. Can’t buy a travel guidebook on great places to stay and eat and sights to see while we’re there” Or… can we? Maybe we do know someone who has been there, and maybe there is something written about it…
Friends, this world is: not our home, a fallen place, and passing away. But Heaven is our eternal home, the residence of God Himself and our Savior Jesus. It is our true Home, Perfect, and Eternal.
“But,” you may ask, “How do we live this life, go to work, pay our bills, raise the kids, and life live in this world while we’re thinking about Heaven? Seems rather impractical!” Friends, we do this all the time… we live in this world, our current reality, taking care of the necessities of this life… while thinking about something else! The something else we often think about is, “Someday, I won’t have to do this mundane stuff any longer. someday I’ll have a better car, house, income. Someday, the kids will be gone, and I’ll be free! Someday, my adult kids will come visit me!” We are always, in our thoughts, thinking about how things might be, could be, should be… someday!
That Someday, my friends can be One Day in Heaven. The Bible contains several descriptions of Heaven, Jesus came from there and has returned there and he has told us what the Kingdom of Heaven is like! We will be blessed to spend some time understanding what the Bible really says, (not our conception from TV and cartoons!) and then we are well-advised to – Think about the things of heaven!
