Today’s Encouragement is Romans 1:5 NLT Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.
Believe and obey –
Two components to Faith-Belief and Obedience. Belief is first, and it is by this Faith that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8). Yet, we are not to stop there. Faith and belief are the essential step into His Salvation, and this salvation is assured! Now the next focus is Obedience. We recoil at the word, “No one is gonna tell me what to do!” And certainly, we are not to obey, to follow devotedly, nor in reverent awe, any human being… but only Jesus.
Yet that word – Obey – is clearly prevalent throughout the Word! James 1:22 NLT But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
We often make the excuse, “We can’t really obey because, well, nobody’s perfect!” Certainly, we aren’t! But does this mean we don’t need to try, to strive, to work to obey?
Ok how do we obey? What do we obey? It’s much clearer and simpler than many think. We are not bound to Obey 10, or 100, or 1000 commands. But only 2!
1 John 5:3 NLT Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. Mark 12:30-31 NLT [Jesus said the greatest commandment is] And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ [31] The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Father, please help us to Obey, to support and verify our Faith in You by obeying You, by loving You and those around us. And so – to bring Glory to Your Name.
