Regular reading

Today’s Encouragement is Deuteronomy 17:19-20 NLT

[19] He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the LORD his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees. [20] This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.

Regular reading –

These instructions were directed to the future kings which God knew the people of Israel would want to have, just like all the other nations.

And the regular reading of God’s Word, which at that time only consisted of the first few books of the law of Moses, would provide the king with wisdom, he would learn to fear and respect God, keep him from becoming proud and turning away from God, in even the smallest way, and ensure his descendants would also follow God’s ways.

That sounds like a pretty good result from spending some time… regularly, daily, reading His Word!

God Himself, through the Holy Spirit who lives inside us, works a transformation in the lives of His chosen children, in any way He pleases… but here, explicitly, He explains that the regular reading of His Word will bring about these direct benefits in the life and character of His children.

Father, help us to read Your Word regularly, to believe It and to put into practice what You say; to eat and drink from the riches of Your Truth, daily.  So that we can live as Your beloved children!
