Today’s Encouragement is James 4:1 NLT “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?”
Causing the quarrels –
What is it? What causes us to be in turmoil, in a fight with this or that person, in the ceaseless drama of rocky relationships? Why are we like this??? Here we have the answer.
And friends, it has absolutely Nothing to do with what they said or did or thought! We have fights with others because we have – evil desires – at war – within ourselves!
It is then, our own selfishness, greed, jealousy, covetousness, all these evil desires which are within us… which causes us to be caught up in fights, arguments, even bullying, excluding, and generally doing all we can to hurt others… from our own evil, selfish desires!
Ouch! Ok, what’s the answer? Read on! James 4:7-8a NLT “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”
The enemy of our souls, the devil, loves to see us fighting and quarreling! It’s his turf! We can resist him by turning away from our selfish desires and instead drawing closer to God. And as we do come close to God, like the returning prodigal son, God will run to meet us!
Lord God, please give us strength to resist the evil one, and the sinful desires of our own hearts, which cause us to fight with others. Help us to live in Peace with others, and with You, as we draw close to You through prayer and worship.
