Today’s Encouragement is 2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. [7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Fan into flames –
Our spiritual gifts vary, yet one aspect of all God’s gifts is this – we must nurture and use the gift. If it is left dormant – there is no result, no fruit.
Galatians 5:22 explains that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. are the ‘Fruits’ of God’s Spirit dwelling within us. Fruit comes from maturity, and well-nurtured trees (mature believers) produce this type of good, healthy ‘fruit’, or results, characteristics. But the tree (the faith of the believer) must be nurtured.
Similarly, the parable of the talents in Matthew 25 shows that the gifts God give us must be used, exercised, invested in order to produce good results.
So, my friends, what gift or gifts has God blessed you with? And are you nurturing, investing, fanning into flames these gifts?
The greatest gift after salvation is His Holy Spirit, and this gift my friends, we can nurture, invest, and fan into flames! And the results? The scripture reveals that the results are Power, Love, and Self-control!
Lord, we desire to grow in our faith as Your children, help us to fan into flames the spiritual gifts You have already given to us. Light the fire again Lord.
Light the Fire again
