We wait with eager hope

Today’s Encouragement is Romans 8:22-23 NLT For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. [23] And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.

We wait with eager hope –

Creation groans – for the day when Christ restores its Eden-status. Untainted by sin, by sin’s abuse and disregard… restored to the Perfection of God’s original Creation.

And so we too, groan, longing for the day when Righteousness is restored, when sin and sorrow are removed from our lives and from all creation.

Because my friends, we have the Holy Spirit within us, now, as a foretaste of the future glory! And because we now have this foretaste, we able to recognize that something is lacking. This lack we sense, this incompleteness, is this – the “full rights as His adopted children”?

My friends it is good and right to recognize that we have the Spirit, and to realize that He is only a foretaste of future glory. And because we have this foretaste, we long, we groan, for things to be made Right – which is the Righteousness of God.

This also makes clear to us that we belong to that realm, the kingdom, where Jesus rules as King, it is His kingship that we long for, groan for, along with all creation! This spiritual kingdom is already ours, guaranteed by the Holy Spirits presence in our lives… a mere foretaste of God’s Glory!

Father God, we thank You for this foretaste which strengthens our Hope, our confidence, our Blessed Assurance that “Jesus is mine”.
