Today’s Encouragement is 1 Samuel 17:45 NLT David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies-the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
In the Name of the Lord –
The record of David’s encounter with Goliath the giant, is one we all remember, an inspiring battle of good vs evil, faith vs brute strength.
Notice what David, probably a teenager at the time, did not say. He didn’t say, “I come against you with stones and a sling!” He didn’t say, “My skill in battle is greater than yours!” nor, “I am smarter and quicker than you are!” There was no reference to David’s own ability nor his own strength (which was considerable!) but only to the “Name of the Lord of Heaven’s armies”!
Friends, we face many types of battles and struggles on our lives; there are many types of ‘giants’ which threaten to destroy us. These giants clearly have the power, the odds are on their side. These same giants have destroyed others before… the giants of gossip, addiction, shame, depression, fear, illness, and even physical enemies, to name a few.
But God! We are always victorious – when we face these giants in our lives as we come face to face with them – in the Name of the Lord! Not in our strength but His. Whatever battle we face, emotional, physical, or spiritual… our victory in found in His Name!
Father, help us to respect, honor and call upon Your Name, the Name of Jesus, in all situations, all struggles, all our need. You alone are our strength, power, and hope!
